Bridging languages has been part of Bethany’s history from the start.
Bethany began in 1906 as “Betania” and met in Norwegian.
“Betania” became Bethany and determined to minister in English and Norwegian to reach the community.
Lao Ministry began when a Laotian couple approached us about attending. We soon developed a partnership with Lao EFC in Rockford, Il, who supplies lay speakers on most Sundays. The Lao Fellowship is part of Bethany; its members are members of Bethany.
Bethany has taken a supporting role in Spanish (Latino) ministry in our area. We are friends with and supporters of New Life Church (Iglesia Nueva Vida) which will begin to meet at Bethany starting in September, 2013.
Some years ago we we approached by a small group of Chinese believers who wanted to minister in Madison to the significant community here. Greater Madison Chinese EFC was formed as a church plant.
The first Sunday of the month is a Unity Communion Service with the Lao and English ministries meeting together with translation provided.
Occasionally we try to combine all three groups as we did at the last service of 2012 where we shared our goals for 2013.
